There are also headphones like the Sony MDR-MV1... but don't think they'd be a substantial upgrade.

I feel like the Sony MDR-MV1 has slightly better defined bass than the 490, plus a more natural midrange but quite a bit more treble energy that can be fixed with EQ.

r/headphonespositive5

After EQ'ing them, they have made me hang up my HE1KSE's for the time being. They just make everything sound so pleasant and full.

The MV1 are fantastic open-backs and over $200 more expensive. The FT1 are good value closed backs, but they simply are outclassed by the MV1s.

r/headphonespositive8

Not all open-back sound full like MV1 , open-back can sound thin and tiny if you pick the wrong one.

r/headphonesneutral5

I have the MV1 and can understand why you say so

r/headphonespositive4

I compared these two not long ago and even though I needed closed backs I kept the MV1s just because I fell in love with them.

r/headphonespositive3

The Sony MDR-MV1s are definitely underrated. Glad you enjoy them.

The Sony MDR-MV1 is the best headphone I’ve ever tried. I admit, I haven’t tried many, but I couldn’t believe music can sound this good.

r/headphonesneutral2

Just seems like you found a headphone that works with your preferences and head.

If I recall correctly, I was very impressed by the imaging on the MDR-MV1 when I tried it in a shop. It's no slouch!

Although sonys are the best for movies ,asmr, music .In gaming i can’t hear footsteps clearly and also the vertical positioning i can’t understand properly in these.

r/headphonesneutral1

I don't think the FT1s are going to be better for gaming than the MDR MV1.

Got the MDR-MV1s for occasional portable mixing/mastering duties and while they are excellent I find the detail retrieval “soft” for my liking. Like the driver response is a tiny bit slow
