I've had my Classic for about 15 years now, complete with MDF grinder.
I had a gaggia classic pro with pid and flow control mod. After 2 years or so I wanted something higher end and chose for the steel duo
I came from a heavily modded Gaggia Classic (from before the Pro was introduced). It didn't have a PID but I did all sorts of other things to it to get the most out of it over like 15 years.
I upgraded from Lelit Anna, which is quite similar to Gaggia Classic, straight to Steel Duo Plus.
I upgraded to the Steel DUO Plus from a modded Gaggia Classic and I would do it again anytime!
Everything on the Duo is premium. Every Gaggia feels like a toy to me by comparison.
It took some time to source a replacement part and get it shipped, which resulted in the Gaggia Classic Pro purchase.
Since I still needed daily caffeine, I purchased the Gaggia Classic Pro, which I now prefer and use daily.
