Have a hero 11. No issues for the past 2 years. Never froze, never shut down due to overheating. Really, never had a issue with it.

GoPro Hero 11 doesn’t read most USB-C mics. The Media Mod or the official 3.5mm adapter is basically the only reliable option.

I certainly wouldn't go any older than the Hero 11 for a 2nd hand GoPro. It was the first GoPro to introduce 10 bit color, the taller 8:7 sensor and "in camera" night effect shots.
