As an owner of a PC38x for the past couple of years…. I can honestly say it is the best headset I have ever owned.

Your PC38x gave up? I thought they shared build with the rest of the HD 500 series? They should last a lot longer than a handful of years, how did they give up?
I've recently tried Hifiman Arya, DT 1770 pro MK2, LCD-2C and settled on HD490 Pro. I ran ATH-R70x for couple years before. **Arya paired with EF500 & Schiit Jotunheim 2:** Amazing sound but too anal
Look into sennheiser HD550, recently realised, gageterytech on YouTube done nice video about them and 505. If you have bit more money to burn loads people recommend HD490.
For console (for which I use easy to drive headphones) I have the PC38x
